Guardian Ad Litem
Guardian ad Litem is Latin for “Guardian at Law”. A Guardian ad Litem (GAL) is a licensed attorney who represents the interests of either a minor child or an incapacitated adult in a legal proceeding. A GAL is appointed by the Court a party may be held responsible for paying the GALs fees at the conclusion of the case. It is common for GALs to participate in guardianship, conservatorship, child custody, and Child In Need of Services (CINCS) proceedings.
